Commonly asked questions -

What should I wear?
Clothing is much the same as for yoga, just wear leggings, fitness shorts or tracksuit type trousers with a loose waist and a t-shirt. During the main classes we work in bare feet or socks but bare feet are essential for On-the-Ball classes due to the possibility of slipping in socks.

What will I need to bring to the class?
I have mats to use in class but you are welcome to bring your own fitness mat if you prefer. It is advisable to bring a cushion and a small towel as you may wish to use them to support the head and neck or to assist you when sitting. If you decide to join an On-the-Ball class you will need to purchase a stability ball, but please see me for advice on the correct size before purchasing.

I'm pregnant. Why do I need a One-to-One class before joining a course?
Pilates is an excellent form of exercise with many advantages for your health if the pregnancy is progressing normally with no history of miscarriage. There are just certain moves which will need a little adaptation for you in order to ensure your comfort and the comfort of your baby plus some that are inadvisable as the pregnancy progresses. It is important that you are aware of the adaptations before joining a general class as I may not always be able to alert you to them every time in a whole class situation.

I suffer with bad back pain. Will Pilates fix it?
Many people find Pilates extremely helpful for back pain as it does encourage the muscles that support the spine to work effectively. Pilates is, however, an exercise programme not a medical treatment. Do take advice from a medical professional as to whether Pilates would be suitable for you. It is often helpful to book a few One-to-One sessions before progressing to a class.

I'm quite fit, how will Pilates benefit me?
Pilates improves the function of the core muscles, helps to tone the body, increases flexibility and is an aid to good posture.
